Percussion Shells As Cuncha Large 12 cm Pair Of Shells For Original Improvisations
Even in the distant past, our Stone Age ancestors used shells in a variety of ways. They were used as a means of payment, made into precious jewelry, used in ritual ceremonies, used as game pieces, or even as musical instruments. We can use them to bring history to life. Like flutes made of bone and bullseyes made of horn, ivory, and wood, shells are among the oldest instruments in the world. They were used as rattles, ratchets, or for percussive sounds.
Our percussion shells have their musical origins on the Atlantic coast of Spain, in Galicia, where they are still used in traditional music today and there is evidence that this extraordinary species of shell was used as a percussion instrument by many Celtic groups on the Atlantic coast. This is not surprising, because the two shells can be used to create incredible effects.
Since each case flap is naturally covered with delicate rows of scales, they are ideal for rubbing against each other, gently tapping or lightly striking. We have selected particularly firm and finely ribbed shells for you, which allow for many different playing options, from a gentle rustling sound to the large güiro sound. The pronounced curvature allows you to create a resonance chamber together with the palm of your hand, which gives the sound an unexpected volume that is characterized by a high level of assertiveness.
